Afternoon Save Smoothie

I call this smoothie 'Afternoon Save.' Dinner running late? Make this. Need a pick me up before yoga? Drink this. Need to run a few more errands when you really want to be home slowing down? Bring this. It is my go to for several reasons. It's easy, can be as light or filling as you choose and it tastes like dessert.

Add to blender in the following order:

  • 1 cup nut milk

  • 1/2 to 1 banana, chopped and frozen

  • 1 TBS raw cocoa powder

  • 1 tsp espresso powder (optional)

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • 1 TBS nut butter (more or less)

  • 1 cup spinach

Optional add-in's:

  • 1/4 tsp Maca Root* powder or other adaptogenic herb

  • 1 TBS Protein powder (I use unsweetened pea protein)

  • 1/4 tsp evening primrose oil

  • 1 -2 pitted dates for added sweetness

  • A handful of frozen berries

  • A handful of ice

  • 1 tsp BodyBio PC liquid (Phosphatidylcholine)

  • 1 tsp EPA / DHA oil

Rotation Diet: if you are following a rotation diet think of this recipe as a basic formula for your daily smoothies. Perhaps it would look like this:

Day 1: almond milk with almond butter and banana

Day 2: cashew milk with cashew butter and blueberries

Day 3: pecan milk and with pecan butter and strawberries

Then back to almonds and banana on the fourth day.

Maca Root: an adaptogenic herb said to balance energy and decrease the effects of stress.
